Major changing Boy deep sleep scene

Here is the original scene, I wanted to make the bed cover softer and use a different colour to make it stand out against the orange.   In this version, the cover is green to better be seen against the orange, but not too bright to hurt your eyes and not too dark to lose the texture details of the original covers. To do this I used a clipping mask. I also made the edge of the cover softer.

Major almost forgetting lips

I almost forgot to abut the lips in this scene so edited it to include them. I followed the lighting already given to me about the lips in the scene to better place the lip's highlights. I feel especially with the highlights that the lips really work in this scene.  

Major not losing lighting

  This is the original scene when the boy is amazed by the stairs sign in the new flat.  I added lips to my character in this scene, but if you look closely there are highlights on his bottom lip, the original scene did have highlights around the mouth so I did not want to lose that.

Major fixing eyebrows and adding eyelashes

 You can see the eyebrow going through the head in this old frame.    In his edited version, where I added eyelashes to the character to give her more personality. Next, I filled in this gap using the magic select tool and copied a full version of the eyebrow from an earlier frame.

Major review of lips on my charaters

  I think the lips work actually, I could have created 3D lips and put them on the boy but the 2D suits the style I'm going on I believe.  Here is a mock-up of 3D lips. I don't like these but it was good to see what I could look like for conformation of 2D lips.

Major lips for LG and Boy

 I waned to add lips to my characters but could only do that in the post-production phase due to wanting to alter it per scene instead of it tracking the mouth movement, and I wanted to add shine and more textures. This chart is helpful going forward. The lips needed shading, so I added to the previous. The smaller circles are for making the lips not a full-block colour and I intend to blend them in to make them look soft.

This is my title in After Effects with a blinking transition, I really like it and would like to go forward with it.

 This is the first frame.  This is in the middle of the frame.  This is the final frame.  These are the settings that I used.  

Major testing out After Effects

 This is the original image without any editing.  This is the edited image in After Effects. You can see this is darker than the original so the purple and characters stand out more. I went into After Effects again with the boy character.  original  I applied brightness and contrast.  

After Effects or Premier Pro for typography

 After Effects and Premier Pro are both good for fonts especially animated ones so I will look at these as one of my teaches suggested.

Major title font experimentation in Maya

   I was originally inspired by the Toy Story font style for my title as it is 3D, colourful , bold and iconic.  I then made the letters in 3D using limited geometry to the point where they would read well once smoothed.  I used a top-angle view to add my own take to the toy story style.  Later on I grouped the individual words of my title like 'is' and 'change'.  I wanted patterns in my work so instead of recreating letters I would flip or reuse them like d and b.  I later on rendered them with the same ground textures from my 'sad walk to car scene' and my 'flat in distance scene'.

   This is my previous render of this scene, creating more scenes gave me more examples of strong lighting and I revisited this scene to perform those practices onto this scene.  I chose to change the lighting by copying and pasting the lighting and animation from the boy leaves car scene: (here) but adjusting it to a blue background compared to a grey one. This is the reflooded scene which sharpens the colors used and makes them more richer and stronger visually.

   I thought to amplify his emotion of the Boy smiling the first time in the story that I would make the lights super bright and have a wavy kind of background but the lights were too bright and the Boy kind of hurt my eyes.  Including the actual background was a better choice and bringing down the colors more makes the scene much more leveled and balanced as well as brings more attention to the boy for the right reasons.

In class tutorial high and low poly baking

 With baking you only have to set out the UV's of the low poly but first you make the high poly. On Maya there is a draw quad tool and you use this to mimic the outline of the high poly with borders around it. If you want to add fine details like dents it is best to do it in the high poly a it makes substance easier when texturing those indents. Now the texturing will react to the Maya as intended.

Major scenes done today

   This scene is for when the boy is angry at his Parents in the new flat, in editing I will remove the black middle, but I chose black to make the colours stand out more.  This scene is for when the Boy smiles at the Little Girl. In my previz, this was a png so I might keep that formula.  This scene is where the boy notices his parents before he runs up to them and trips in the new flat.  This is the scene where he hands over his toy to the Little Girl.  This scene is where the Boy first enters his new room, I did not like the right shoulder so I did another pose.  I like this pose more because the contrast between a closed fist and open plan is nice design wise.

Major improving LG lighting

 I needed to make the LG character pop out, so I chose contrasting 3D glasses as a theme of inspiration for the lighting style, the red sharpens her tones while the blue highlights shinier areas.

 I don't think the LG character comes out as well as the boy, it may be due to the textures, so I will need special attention when doing a render of her. (Boy) (LG/Little Girl)

Major plans for scenes next week

 I already have the completion of elevator scenes in motion so I will now move into the flat rooms scenes. This includes:  Boy look up at his parents on the floor Boy throw toy in the air Little Girl dancing Toy rotating in the air Little Girl picks up toy delicately  I believe it is realistic to focus on these scenes over the next week, not due to them being simple, but as they chronologically follow my previous renders.

Major stair logo

  In my script, there s no mention of stairs, but it is heavily implied, to make it clearer I have made a simple logo of stairs that will be a static JPEG to make it clear what the family has to do once the lift is broken.

Major Boy frustrated

This scene follows when the Boy is hit with the harsh reality that he has to take the stairs. The lift in his new home is out of service so already having a grudge about moving, he feels his disconnect is now more justified.  

Major scenes done today

   This scene is when he is angry at his parents for forcing him to be in the car early.  This scene is where the Boy is planning to kick the back of his Dad's seat.  This scene is when he actually does it.  This scene is where he kicks his favorite toy showing his anger. This scene is when the Mum hits the breaks on the car to tell off the boy. The scen is followed with the car stop scene : This scene is from when he's still sad from being told off once he kicked his Dad's seat.
