MULTI PASS RENDERING AND COMPOSITING WITH ROBBY BRANHAM tutorial series 06
In Maya there is depth of field, which means closer images/models are more focused/detailed and further back information is blurred or less detailed. In Maya this is called 'Distance from camera' which can be found in display- heads up display- object details. This distance from camera is measured by tones (white is closer and black is further away)
Maya, though a 3D programme, uses many 2d elements. In Nuke velocity and z-depth are used for 2D motion blur. The Z-depth actually is responsible for the black and white distance, but the distance from camera is used to place the objects with a smaller number being closer to the camera and the bigger number being further away from the camera.
When using velocity make sure clamp velocity is off. The max velocity should be 1. Velocity creates motion blur on moving objects (like animation).
The point position stores where a modeled is positioned in a scene, as further reference to come back to if you want a looping animation.
